OLD STUFF...Post #1

Old stuff absolutely rocks...I love it so much that my house pretty much has something OLD in every room.
Each item has a story as unique as the item itself...
That's why we really try to collect pieces that belonged to someone in our family, have a special meaning about someone in our family, or have a special meaning to us...........

LIKE A LIVING SCRAPBOOK!

Every weekend, its like a quest to see what we can find. We have had so much fun hitting up random places...When you luck up and get a good price, thats even more fun!

This post is the first of a series of OLD STUFF posts that I hope to keep going...

My vintage Wilton trivets...

Wonder how many hot pots and pans these babies have held over the years...Think about all the meals that would have been cooked around them and all of the hands that prepared the meals. Also - these were brand spanking new at one time...Way back in the day someone treasured having these items in their kitchen...

This isn't just a tribute to the "champagne of beers"...This is my Granny Miller's shelf!
See the smaller picture on the left? Yep that's her way back in the day (probably late 40s early 50s) on the side of the road in front of a MILLER beer billboard :O) The tin isn't vintage - its a remake I snagged at Buckhorn for like 2 bucks. It fit my lil shelf idea so well, I couldn't pass it up. The vintage Miller goblet to the left was a gift from one of my fave cousins by marriage...Thanks Lauren!

The larger picture on the right is of my Granny Miller (on the left) and one of their family members in front of a 40s or 50s model Harley.

Mmkay Buddy, no more Yoo-Hoo for you. That was Chris' sock monkey whom we rescued from his mother's attic a few months ago. If you have kids, you prolly recognize that hat...yep, Woody from Toy Story is letting Buddy the sock monkey borrow it for a while. Chris picked up the vintage Yoo-Hoo bottle at a yard sale and the chair too. The adorable older gentleman that we bought the chair from said he really couldn't remember how old it was, but it was really old because it has been around since he has.

See - what if that chair could talk??
Would it talk about all the arses that plopped down in it?
Would it talk about all the conversations it heard?
What would it say about it's life?

This antique trunk, my friends was a SURPRISE brought to me!

Long story short, I took care of MAN work on the farm a few weeks ago ALONE (all the menfolk were at their normal day jobs) and since Chris knew I'd been hot for an antique trunk of some sort, he randomly stumbled across this one at a flea market one Saturday and scooped it up to THANK me for my work :O)

It's a turn of the century steamer trunk with the caster wheels on the bottom...The lock is broken, but that's okay it only adds character. I instantly wiped it off when he brought it in the house and put it to work! All of those albums are Chris' (he collects cool vinyl) and the red throw I lined the trunk with belonged to my Great-Grandmother Annie.

Colt Seavers aka The Fall Guy aka Lee Majors!
Yep, this set belongs to Chris...He loves it
He loves it so much, that it was displayed over our kitchen cabinets the day he brought it in.
For those of you who weren't fortunate enough to watch this shiz on TV back in the day, I am seriously offering my condolences and urging you to find these episodes on DVDs asap.
EARLY 80's TV at it's BEST!

More OLD STUFF tbc...

PINTEREST

Okay, so I finally did it...I succumbed to the creative forces of PINTEREST.

This was my first PIN...A little hardcore; yes, but it's so friggin' me (soaked with sarcasm)

Sweet Jesus, I can't believe I did that. Now I have one more thing to tack onto the list of CREATIVITY ADD related things that I go back and forth between on a regular basis. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot...

This is crazy - Its like one of the funnest ways to TOTALLY WASTE TIME. Unless you are driving traffic towards your BLOG or PHOTOGRAPHY PORTFOLIO, you aren't totally wasting time (that's what I like to tell myself anyways...hey, it's my lie I'll tell it however I want to).

I think these dang sayings are the funniest shiz EVER...A few more that I pinned:

This one needs to go on the main gate at Roads En Farm :O)

hehehe...enough said :O)

KEEN

So, I figured it's been a while since I've done a SHOE post. I'm still lovin' my Sanooks, but for summer's hikes, camping and other adventures, they just aren't quite tough enough.

These bad boys are though...

I LOVE these shoes soooo much!

They are cute AND tough...Hiking on trails with these babies is like running on air with a pair of Nikes. They are wide, tough and sturdy...Which is friggin awesome when you are wandering around on trails with a camera at your eye or keeping up with a long-legged TALL husband on a decent trail when you are a short-legged SHORT wife :O)

Mickey Hart Band 04.17.12

4/17/12 was a GREAT day. No wait...4/17/12 was a MAGICAL day.

Not only was it our 8th wedding anniversary, but we got to take in a killer show together! We had the absolute priveledge of experiencing the Mickey Hart Band at The Cat's Cradle in Carboro, NC.

Out of all the shows we have seen, this one is right there at the top. The Cat's Cradle is a smaller venue and anytime you can get closer to the music its a guaranteed effin good time. Each band member was in his (or her) element that night and you could see them connecting and really having fun. From what we could tell, they are really starting to jell as a band and we can't wait to see what the future holds for MHB!

I mean, what an ecclectic all star lineup! Mickey Hart (Grateful Dead, Rythym Devils) on percussions; Dave Schools (Widespread Panic, Stockholm Syndrome) on bass; Crystal Monee Hall (the musical Rent) on vocals and rythym guitar; Tim Hockenberry (Trans Siberian Orchestra) on vocals, trombone and keys; Gawain Mathews (Utah Symphony, Ben Lee) on lead guitar; Sikiru Adepoju (Planet Drum) on the talking drum; and Ian 'Inkx' Herman on drums (Shifty Records, Paul Simon).

WOW

I absolutely LOVE the fact that so many different musicians from so many different musical backgrounds can come together and make something truly unique and special!
LONG LIVE THE MICKEY HART BAND!

This fine instrument belongs to Tim Hockenberry...LOVE IT...Folks, this gentleman has covered the ENTIRE horn in animal print duct tape! His keyboard and stand were covered too :o)

See??
Keyboard AND stand...Also animal print duct taped :O)

Gawain Matthews and his Les Paul...ahhhh

Autographs from Gawain, Crystal and Siriru

The one and ONLY Mickey Hart!!

Mr. Siriru Adepoju!

Ladies and Gentlemen, the many faces of my personal FAVE, Dave Schools....
AND beautiful lady is Crystal Monee Hall...She brought such an AWESOME vibe to the stage.

Not only does Miss Hall shine on stage, but her sweet soul shines as well! After the show, she was standing around greeting fans with hugs, smiles and autographs. That alone was awesome enough, but little did I know Miss Hall had teamed up with Chris for THE BEST ANNIVERSARY SURPRISE EVER....

SWEET JESUS!!
A SIGNED set list by none other than Mickey Hart and Dave Schools - two of my ALL TIME FAVES!!! To top it off, that was actually School's set list too. Thanks bunches to the stage tech that stopped what he was doing to hand it to us AND thanks to Dave and Mickey, who I'm sure are bombarded with requests like that on a nightly basis, for obligingly hooking a HUGE fan up :O)

Best Husband Ever award goes to CHRIS :O) While I was chatting with Mr. Adepoju who was also greeting fans, Chris explained to Crystal that it was our 8th Wedding Anniversary and that it would mean so much to his wife if she could in any way see if Dave or Mickey would sign the set list. Bless her heart, she took it right on the bus...About 15 minutes later, we are still standing around and I'm totally oblivious to the fact that Chris didn't have the set list in his hands anymore. I'm loving standing around and chatting with all the folks outside and worried at the same time that Chris is ready to jet since its like 2 or 3 am at this point. All of a sudden, here comes Crystal waving a piece of paper, smiling from ear to ear and walking towards us. I literally almost fell over when she wished us a very happy anniversary :O)

There is only one member of the band that I didn't get good shots of...Ian Herman. Sorry Ian, but due to my inexperience, lighting and distance they all came out fuzzy. Maybe next time!!

Many many thanks go out to Mickey and all of the band members...You all have created something truly unique and magical...Can't wait till yall come back to NC!! :O)

MIXED CHICKS

I have struggled with been blessed with extremely naturally curly/frizzy hair for all of my life....

Thanks to a super good friend, I have FINALLY found the BEST  curly/frizzy hair product EVER!

Meet Mixed Chicks!!

Mixed Chicks is a total line of hair products for people regardless of color or nationality that STRUGGLE with their naturally curly/frizzy hair.

After seeing how well this product worked on my friend's daughter (we have almost the exact same hair), I knew this product was going to be awesome. AND IT WAS...

This morning is the first morning that I have used it...

Go figure - a girl that has mega curly/frizzy hair (without spending hours with a T3) decides to wear her hair down and curly on the first rainy day after a HOT drought. Not only that, but this very same girl spent 15 minutes running in the drizzling rain (if you have my kinda hair, you KNOW this disaster equals hat or ponytail) roundin' up loose baby cows and my Mixed Chicks STILL held up.

Magical, delightful, fantastic...however it can be put, I am definitely SOLD on this product...It is WONDERFUL. Seriously - If you have curly hair, you NEED  to getchu some asap. You won't be disappointed!
